ESAMI-Trapca Celebrates Graduation Ceremony with Notable Dignitaries

ESAMI held its 21st graduation ceremony on November 25, 2023, at its HQ at Njiro Hill in Arusha Tanzania. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for 90 graduates from the ESAMI-Trade Policy Training Centre in Africa (ESAMI-trapca), who successfully completed their studies MSC in International Trade Policy and Trade Law and the Post graduate diploma advanced in trade policy and trade law programs.

The auspicious occasion was graced by the presence of His excellency the Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC), Hon. Dr. Peter Mathuki, who served as the esteemed guest of honor. In a Keynote address he remarked the significant contributions that the training programs and activities offered by the institute have contributed to the growth and the region and have reinforced the integration endeavors of Africa. In addition to the EAC Secretary General, other distinguished guests present at the ceremony included The Tanzania Member of the ESAMI Governing Board and the Principal Secretary for Public Service Management and Good Governance, Mr. Juma Mkomi, Senior government official, esteemed adjunct faculty, and other important guests from the region and the private sector.

In his inspiring keynote address, ESAMI Director General Assoc Prof. Martin M. Lwanga extended heartfelt congratulations to the graduates, recognizing their unwavering commitment and dedication throughout their academic journey. He particularly applauded the remarkable female representation among the graduates, noting that 47 of the 90 graduates were women. He also commended the diversity of the graduating class, with participants representing 25 African countries.

ESAMI-trapca academic Director from Lund University, Hans Falck, highlighted the significance of ESAMI’s partnership with Lund University, which has played a crucial role in providing academic support and a high standard for ESAMI-trapca’s programs. The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) was also appreciated for its generous financial support to trapca programs for over the past 17 years. It was noted that SIDA‘s contributions have been instrumental in empowering African countries to develop their trade policy capacity, leading to poverty reduction and economic growth across the continent.

ESAMI remains committed to providing high-quality education and training in trade policy and trade law, empowering African countries to participate effectively in the global trade arena. The institute’s partnership with Lund University and the financial support of SIDA have been instrumental in achieving this goal through the trade programs offered by trapca. The graduation ceremony not only symbolized academic accomplishment but also served as a reminder of ESAMI-trapca’s role as a beacon for trade education in Eastern and Southern Africa.
