Over the past year, ESAMI-trapca, with support from ACBF, has equipped and supported AfCFTA National Champions in 10 countries to deliver practical initiatives that amplify the voices of civil society, women, youth, SMEs, the Ministry of Trade and other stakeholders in shaping a more inclusive continental trade agenda.
In Rwanda, these trained AfCFTA National Champions moved from dialogue to action by bringing together women, youth, SMEs, the Ministry of Trade, relevant institutions, policymakers and other stakeholders to:
- Identify concrete opportunities in trade in services
- Surface the market barriers limiting participation
- Connect stakeholders with relevant institutions and decision-makers
- Turn lived experiences and stakeholder priorities into practical policy recommendations
- Strengthen the capacity of underrepresented groups to engage in AfCFTA implementation
Their work is helping ensure that Rwanda’s AfCFTA implementation is informed by the people, businesses, institutions and stakeholders it is intended to serve—and that women, youth and SMEs are better positioned to access emerging continental markets.
