Course Justification

Regional integration initiatives are increasingly becoming the preferred trade reform approaches by member states. This is evidenced by the proliferation of regional trade arrangements (RTAs). As the African continent gears up for the Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA) and riding on existing RTAs, the competences required to effectively analyse the implications of these initiatives and negotiate and drive the implementation outcomes is critically important.

Module Objectives

The objective of this module is to expose students to regional integration agreements and frameworks with a focus on trade facilitation. At the end of the module, the student will be expected to:

  • Model and analyse economic implications of trade agreements
  • Analyse RTAs agreements
  • Reviews empirical evidence and relevant models.
  • Examine trade facilitation approaches and implementation outcomes that support integration efforts
