ESAMI-trapca successfully facilitated the Regional Training Workshop on Agroecology, Agroecological Produce, and Navigating Cross-Border Trade Regulations and Market Dynamics, bringing together policymakers, senior technical officials, and practitioners, including traders and farmers from across the region for an intensive and highly convenient learning experience 📘🌱.
The programme convened over 50 participants from the #EAC region, fostering rich peer learning and cross-country exchange.
To ensure inclusivity and regional reach, the workshop was delivered bilingually in English and French.
What the Workshop Achieved
- Deepened understanding of agroecology within regional and continental trade systems
- Practical application of STR, NTBs, SPS/TBT, Rules of Origin, and customs procedures
- Hands-on interpretation of EAC and AfCFTA trade provisions
- Peer learning, simulations, and policy-to-practice exchanges
- Inclusive strategies to advance women, youth, and smallholder producers in cross-border trade
Participants undertook an enlightening field visit to the Namanga One Stop Border Post, gaining first-hand exposure to border operations, coordinated border management, and real-world challenges and solutions affecting agroecological trade flows. The visit powerfully connected policy frameworks to on-the-ground implementation.
This successful workshop reaffirms ESAMI-trapca’s commitment to practical capacity building, evidence-based policy implementation, and inclusive regional integration across Africa – many thanks to Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA) and SIDA.
