Peter Kalunda Kiuluku

Peter Kiuluku has been an international management consultant with specialist skills in corporate strategy and marketing. He previously managed the Global Leadership and Management Sustainability Programme and was Manager for Marketing and Business Development at ESAMI. He holds an MBA in Strategic Management from ESAMI and he is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in business administration with Maastricht School of Management.

David Kalaba

David Kalaba is a Chartered Accountant that has ten years of experience in Accounting and Project Management. He holds an MBA from Maastricht School of Management and ESAMI, ACCA and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

Beatrice Wangari

Beatrice Wangari coordinates trapca's operations and communications internationally and through ESAMI networks. She holds a Bachelor in Business Administration from Newport International University, U.S.A, Diploma in Legal Secretarial Studies - Kenya Polytechnic and is currently pursuing a 2nd degree, majoring in Human Resource Management at the Kenya Methodist University.

Göte Hansson, Ph.D.

Göte Hansson is a Professor of International Economics at Lund University. He was the Deputy Dean and Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences from 1990 -2003. He holds a doctorate in economics from Lund University and has published widely on the economics of trade and development, especially in African contexts.

Joakim Gullstrand, Ph.D.

Joakim Gullstrand is an Associate Professor of Economics at Lund University and Research Fellow at the Leverhulme Centre for Research on Globalisation and Economic Policy at Nottingham University. He holds a doctorate in economics from Lund University and has published widely on international trade.

Susanna Thede, Ph.D.

Susanna Thede is a lecturer and researcher in international economics at Lund University. She holds a doctorate in economics from Lund University and she specialises in international trade and economic development.

Caiphas Chekwoti, Ph.D.

Caiphas Chekwoti is a trade policy economist with a bias in quantitative analysis. He manages the training department. He previously served as a lecturer at the Department of Economic Theory and Analysis, Makerere University. He holds a doctoral degree in economics from Dar es Salaam University, master's degree in economic policy and planning and a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Makerere University. He has been involved in various researches and consultancies on trade policy as well as development issues.

Pernilla Johansson

Pernilla Johansson holds a Master of Science in Economics from Lund University and writes a Ph. D thesis with a special focus on development economics and macroeconomics. She coordinates specialised short courses and the Master of Science Programme in International Trade Policy and Trade Law.

Therese Nilsson

Therese. Nilsson holds a Master of Science in Economics from Lund University and writes a Ph D thesis oriented towards development economics and the measurement of inequality and poverty. She coordinates specialised short courses and the Master of Science Programme in International Trade Policy and Trade Law.

Board members

Bonard Mwape, Ph. D.
Bonard Mwape is a professor of public sector management. He is the trapca Board Chairman and the Director General of the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI). His specific areas of management development expertise include policy and public sector management, human resources management and leadership skills development. Mr. Mwape holds a Ph. D from Pittsburgh, USA and a Master degree from London, UK.

Chungu Mwila, PhD.

Chungu Mwila is Director, Investment Promotion and Private Sector Development, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). Prior to his current position, he held different senior positions in the SADC Secretariat where he oversaw the development of sectoral policies. He holds a doctorate in Economics from the University of Bradford, a Master of Development Studies from Institute of Development Studies, Hague and a BA from University of Zambia.

Peter M. Mitiambo

Peter Mitiambo is the ESAMI Principal Consultant. He holds an MBA in finance from Bradford University and is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Institute of the Certified Public Accountants of Kenya. He has been with ESAMI for over 16 years and has technical competence in the design, development and delivery of management development training programs, financial planning and budget development and management of training programs, strategic management and management consultancy.

Rashid S. Kaukab

Rashid S. Kaukab is currently Deputy Director and Research Coordinator, CUTS Geneva Resource Centre, Geneva, Switzerland.  His long career includes working for the government of Pakistan as a field administrator, in the ministry of finance, and as Counsellor on trade and economic issues in Pakistan Mission to the UN/WTO in Geneva. He joined the Geneva-based South Centre, an intergovernmental organization of developing countries, in March 1998 where he worked as Coordinator of South Centre Work Programme on Trade and Development, as Head, Strategic Policy and Planning, and as Acting Head, Programme and Research Coordination. He led the South Centre delegation to the Geneva, Seattle, Doha and Cancun Ministerial Conferences of the WTO and the XI Ministerial Conference of UNCTAD. He has also worked for UNCTAD as a Senior Consultant. Rashid S. Kaukab graduated from GC Lahore in Economics and English Literature and has Masters Degrees in Economics (Karachi University) and Business Administration (Yale University). Trade and development is the broad area of his interest and he has contributed a number of articles/papers on issues related to trade and development.  He has lectured at several research and academic institutions including Grenoble University, France, CASIN, Geneva, and GC University, Lahore, Pakistan.  Current focus of his work as part of CUTS research team is on Africa, particularly the political economy of trade, and climate change and trade in Eastern and Southern Africa.

Beatrice Dove-Edwin

Beatrice Dove-Edwin is formerly Director of the Policy, Planning and Research Division in Sierra Leone's Ministry of Trade. She qualified as a Barrister in the UK in 1988. From 1995 to 2003, she progressed from Staff Lawyer to Programme Director at the Foundation for International Environmental Law and Development (FIELD), providing legal advice and assistance to inter-governmental agencies, government departments and international NGOs. Her areas of expertise include international trade law, international environmental law and policy, natural resource management, maritime law and shipping. She has written/contributed to books and articles on international trade/international environmental law issues.

Christophe Bellmann, PhD.

Christophe Bellmann is the Programmes Director at the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD). He joined ICTSD in 1998, first as Programme Officer for Outreach and Partnership, then as Director of Policy Dialogues and finally, since 2002, as Programmes Director. In his current position, he is responsible for fundraising, management and overall supervision of ICTSD's research, dialogue and capacity building programmes in Geneva and in the regions. Before joining ICTSD, he worked for the Swiss Coalition of Development Organisations (SCDO) where he was responsible for activities on multilateral trade and sustainable development issues. During that time he produced several papers and articles related among others to public participation in the WTO, possible multilateral disciplines on foreign direct investment (FDI), and trade preferences for developing countries, agriculture trade reform and trade-related technical assistance. He has also worked as a Research Associate at the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile, on the relationship between trade and the environment. He has edited and published a wide range of books, articles and opinion pieces in English, French and Spanish on trade and sustainable development. He holds an MA in International Relations from the Graduate Institute for International Studies in Geneva.

James Musonda

Mwansa Musonda is a Senior Trade Advisor at the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). He is an Economist by profession. Prior to joining COMESA, Mr Musonda previously worked for the Zambia State Insurance Corporation and the Export Board of Zambia at the where he worked in various capacities rising to become its Chief Executive. Mr Musonda has also done several consultancy assignments for a number of organisations in trade promotion strategies, export marketing, country economic analysis and research reports, and training strategies for trade promotion officials. He has done numerous research assignments and served as a resource person to various meetings and workshops of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the World Trade Organisation, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and several research institutions in eastern and southern Africa. Mr Musonda has also served as a Director on the Boards of several companies. At COMESA, he deals with the liberalisation and integration of the regional trade regime (the Free Trade Area and preparations for the Customs Union), trade disputes, the formulation and implementation of the regional competition law and policy, and multilateral trade issues including food aid. He has been among COMESA's delegates, in an observer capacity, to the WTO Ministerial Conferences of 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005.


Dominique Njinkeu, PhD.

Dominique Njinkeu is the Executive Director of International Lawyers and Economists Against Poverty (ILEAP). He has had an extensive career in the field of development and has expertise in trade, regional integration, poverty reduction and international negotiations. Prior to joining ILEAP, He was Deputy Director of Research at the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) in Nairobi, Kenya. He holds a PhD in economics from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Dominique Njinkeu is the Deputy Director of Research of the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) where he manages, among others, the trade policy research program. He has worked as Research Coordinator of the Reseau Politiques Industrielles in Dakar (Senegal), a trade research capacity building program for Francophone Africa. Prior to that he taught at the University of Yaounde (Cameroon), at the Universite Laval in Quebec (Canada) and at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (USA). He holds a PhD in Economics, a Masters degree in Economics and Statistics and a Masters degree in Agribusiness Economics. . His research interests and publications are in trade and industrial policy and African Development. Current activities include, among others, networking African and international researchers, institutions, and policymakers in the areas of international trade negotiations and poverty reduction strategies. Dominique Njinkeu is a Cameroonian citizen.

Prof. Samuel Laird

Samuel Laird is currently Consultant to the UNCTAD/WTO International Trade Centre and also Special Professor of Economics, University of Nottingham, UK. He has previously worked for the World Bank and has been a Visiting Professor in Universities in France, Switzerland and Japan. He has published extensively in the area of Applied International Economics. Professor Laird obtained his MA in Economics and Law from the University of Edinburgh.


Prof. Chris Milner, Phd.

Professor Chris Milner is the head of the School of Economics, University of Nottingham. Chris Milner moved to the School in 1994 from Loughborough University where he also held a Chair in Economics. He was Head of the School from 1995 to 2002 and was reappointed as Head of School again in August 2004 to August 2008. He is a Research Fellow of both the Leverhulme Centre for Research on Globalisation and Economic Policy (GEP) and the Centre for Research on Economic Development and International Trade (CREDIT). His research interests lie in the area of applied trade and trade policy analysis in both a developed and developing country context. He has published widely in academic journals and authored or edited a number of books in these areas. His research has been funded by inter alia the ESRC, Nuffield Foundation and DFID, and he has undertaken advisory work in a number of developing countries for agencies such as the World Bank, UNCTAD, UNIDO, Commonwealth Secretariat and EU. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Development Studies, for which he was a managing editor from 1999-2005. He is also a member of the Technical Committee of the Africa Trade Policy Centre at the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

Petina Gappah, Ph.D.

Petina Gappah is a Counsel, Advisory Centre on WTO Law (ACWL), an international organisation based in Geneva, Switzerland. She holds a doctorate from the Karl-Franz University in Graz, Austria, a Master of Laws degree from Cambridge University and a Bachelor of Laws Honours degree from the University of Zimbabwe. Ms Gappah was a lawyer in the Appellate Body Secretariat of the World Trade Organisation, which provides support to the Members of the Appellate Body. She also worked with several individual Appellate Body Members appointed as arbitrators to determine the reasonable period of time for implementation and participated in technical assistance missions and trade policy courses.

Kithure Kindiki, Ph.D.

Kithure Kindiki is Associate Dean of the School of Law University of Nairobi. He previously served as Head, Department of Public Law and Senior Lecturer of International Law in the same University. He holds a doctoral degree in International Law from the University of Pretoria. He also holds a Master's degree specializing in International Law and a Bachelor of Laws degree. He has taught and published widely in his area of specialization and is a member of the Academic Council on the United Nations System among other professional societies.

Chandra Patel, Ph.D

Chandra Patel works with the Southern and Eastern Africa Trade Information and Negotiations Institute. He has a solid international practical as well as academic experience in the field of trade and international economics. Mr. Patel holds a Ph. D in Economics and a Masters degree in the same academic topic.

Edward Kwakwa, S.J.D.

Edward Kwakwa is the Legal Counsel for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland. He has served as Visiting Professor of International Law at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, Boston, USA, and also at the University of Pretoria, South Africa and the International Law Institute in Kampala, Uganda. He obtained his doctorate and a Master's degree in international law from Yale University, USA. Previously, he had obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M) from Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada and before then a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Ghana, Legon, and Accra, Ghana. He is widely published on various aspects of international law.
